WEEKEND GETAWAY: ROTTERDAM

As a true fan of city breaks I’ve been to a bunch of cool cities in my life already. Living in Europe makes it quite easy to book a weekend getaway since it never takes a lot of time to travel to a neighbouring country. I love the diversity of European cities and can’t wait to explore even more of them. Makes me think of the following: there’s also a lot to explore in our own little country, starting with Rotterdam. A city of many faces: architecture, design, night life, the port, designer shopping, a rich artistic culture.. and also a city that I don’t know that well, while it’s only an hour train ride from Amsterdam.

Lennart and I booked a weekend get away – something we’d like to start doing more often, it’s so relaxing! – to the most cosmopolitan city our small country has, stayed in the nhow Hotel and simply just relaxed our asses off. The nhow hotel is located next to the Erasmus bridge that connects the north and south part of the city. To me it’s one of the most iconic buildings in the entire city – or at least the most obvious one – and being able to see it form our hotel room was pretty awesome. In fact, the entire hotel was.

The nhow hotel in Rotterdam was designed by the famous architect Rem Koolhaas and is part of the NH Hotel Group that has hotels in the Benelux, UK, France and South Africa among them. The one in Rotterdam is the third nhow hotel worldwide. The concept of this group of hotels is still relatively new, which is pretty clear when you look at the interior of the hotel rooms, lounge areas and bar. It’s obvious that nhow Rotterdam is focusing on art and architecture in their hotel, looking at the combination of both Dutch design and photography, architecture and industrial look their visitors are being spoiled with. It’s a combination I personally am pretty fond of. Our room was located on the 22nd floor of the hotel and provided us with the coolest view of the entire city (want proof? Check this). The room was large, had the best bed we could wish for and a shower that was probably even better. We even wanted to go for breakfast in bed, but were too afraid we’d never leave the hotel room again, LOL.

If you’re ever thinking of booking a weekend getaway to Rotterdam, I’d strongly recommend this hotel for sure. It might not come as a surprise we we invited to come over this time, but if I were to go to Rotterdam again, I’m already sure where I might stay. Oh and for those who don’t necessarily need to leave the hotel because it’s all awesome inside as well: try their restaurant. We had a lovely dinner (Sushi! Steak! Pasta!) and enjoyed it to the fullest.

This article was written as a collab with nhow hotel, but ofcourse that doesn’t affect my opinion about the hotel.
